Today I thought that it would be nice to go the the ocean. Since we have been in Mexico we have not been to the ocean except for the time that Ken swam with the Dolphins. We would travel the road that went by Uruapan.
Uruapan has some ruins by there so I wanted to also go there. Ken was not in the mood to sight see so he told me that they took the ruins down and that they were no longer there.
Where the ruins are is in the middle of Avocado Plantations. Every hill and mountain side is planted with Avocados. All different kinds of Avocados. I purchased two different kinds of Avocados today.
I was looking forward to opening that big Avocado and just putting some salt on it and eating. Well this is what I discovered.
THIS IS AN AVOCADO
THIS IS NOT AN AVOCADO.
THIS IS SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL FRUIT!
Where we got this fruit was in the central plaza in the town. Since we were in the plaza we went into the church. Oh my was I surprised. The town that you drive through (Tingambato) to get to the ruins is not anything to write home about. But look at their church.
Most of the churches have this wood division = like a room divider between the opening doors and the inside of the church. You do not walk through it like you would a door but go around it.
This is that divider from inside the church.
We drove on through the town to the ruins. The ruins at Tinganio were built around AD450-900. The area that the ruins are in is between the hot climate and the cool climate and has the most futile soil in the whole state.
As I walked through these ruins, I just could not help but wonder about the people that lived there. How did they spend their days, what was life like for them? You get this feeling that you are walking in their world but not really on or in their world. This one very large structure seemed to have a bunch of attached rooms, maybe it was a residential home, maybe it was apartments or rooms used to govern the people - like city hall building.
One odd thing that I noticed walking around this place was that it looked like the plantations of avocado's were just planted not only around this site but actually on top of a lot of buried buildings.
See how the trees look like they are on top of and right next to walls of a possible building?
Now why would they build a wall and on the wall have indentions - it looks almost like a seating area? Here is a link to a movie that I made about this site. http://youtu.be/PUc07ce0mI8
It was starting to get too late to get to the ocean so we turned around and came home. Stopped by this place to have dinner and I wanted you to see some of the art that is for sale in this place.
Some day I may try to make one of these. The cost is 10,000. pesco's or about 780.00 USD.
Well that was our day so we bid you despedida
from Donna and Ken
