In yesterdays post I wrote that most of the buildings in downtown Morelia were made of this pink rock. Today as we were leaving Morelia, there is this area by the road that showed this pink rock. Here is what it looks like in nature.
There was some road construction going on and I was at a stand still so I took a picture of the town Morelia.
We did not find an rental but we did get one good lead on a place that is before Morelia city. It is in the "suburbs." The different subdivisions / districts / or towns (whatever you wish to call them) in the city have different names. Just as in the states, where we call a city in say Orange County Lakewood, here it is in Morelia and called things like Praderas de Morelia or El Vivero Indeco.
What is different here from the states is that there could be five or more different sections in just blocks. One block is one section and the block right across the street is in another section and they both have their own names. Lakewood in Orange County is a large area of homes. The area known as El Vivero Indecu has only a few houses in it.
The name of the area seems to have more to do with when the area was built rather than a location.
Driving in the city was not too bad today. Just one time I went down a major road the wrong way but hay what else is new?
Driving here has many distractions and some are listed below.
There are men with whistles in the parking lots. These men are all over everywhere with their whistles. In fact whistles are blown by cops that do nothing other than blow a whistle. Traffic moves along if they blow or not blow their whistle so I see no reason for the whistle. Anywhere that a car parks - ANYWHERE - there is a man with a whistle. He will get behind your car and stop traffic so that you can back out. Now isn't that nice of him....He blows that whistle and he blows and blows on that whistle. He will do this regardless to the fact that there maybe no other cars anywhere around you. He still blows that whistle. The entire time you are backing out he is blowing. You have to pay them when they do this "work" for you.
There are other men who wait at signal lights and when you stop. They wash your windshield for you. Now isn't that nice of them. Plus you do not have a real choice here, they just start washing your windshield weather or not it needs it or you want it. They wash it. You have to pay them when this do this work for you.
Also at the stop lights there are these other men who preform magic tricks while you are waiting for the light. Now isn't that nice of them? Oh, yes you have to pay them as well.
Let us not forget the road blocks of kids with coffee cans asking for donations. You have to pay them too. You are given the choice when you come up to this on the road to either run over the youth standing in front of the car OR you guessed it - you pay them.
The reason I explained about the men with whistles is that I want you to understand that these men literally force you to move your car or park your car because you will go nuts over them blowing their whistles. Today for example I had another special dietary thrill - we found a KFC place. This "whistle" man blew and blew and blew until I got into the drive through lane. I did not want to be in the drive through lane. I have to point at my food when I order it - I can not tell someone at the darn voice box what I want to eat - I do not speak Spanish. (yet) But there I was talking to a voice box that spoke Spanish and did not understand one single word I was saying. So I continued to drive through without food. Parked the car and walked back and ordered the best pure oil covered so called fried chicken I have had for years. I did not ever eat that stuff in the states but I sure wolfed it down here - that is after I pointed at what I wanted to eat.
That is it for our adventures today - manana is another day.
