Had to get ready for Christmas and this was the town that I was aiming for. They have just all these strands that they are making right there as you buy them. They are 2.00 USD a strand.
The Basilica "Nuestra Senora de la Salud" which means Our Lady of Health has quite a repatriation. This Statuette dating from 1538 is made of cornstalk paste and orchid-glue. She is known to have incomparable healing powers.
A man who had a sick daughter near death road on his horse from Morelia to Patzcuaro to bring his daughter to Our Lady of Health. He came with many people all on horse back. His daughter was cured and remains healthy. On November 1 this event is recreated every year for the past 35 years. We will go in the evening to see the horses riding in to the Basilica grounds. All will be caring torches, I hear it is a must see event.
This church was begun in the sixteenth century and was meant to become the Cathedral of Michoacan. The plan was considered too grand and was suspended.
Outside of the church there are the selling of food and material. Tour buses bring tons of people in because the quality of the material things are very professionally done.
These little fish come from the lake and actually they are very good (head and all).
