Lake Zirahuen, Michoacan
There are web sites called forums. People who have a general topic of interest get on these forums and have discussions. I find that these forums have worlds of information and help in finding places to live and where to go.
Ken and I have been thinking about moving for some time now. Remember that my goal is to live on 2,000 dollars or less. The lakeside area of Chapala has SO many expats that the price of everything has gone up over the years - typical supply and demand concept.
Actually one of the topics on the "Expats living in Mexico forum is are the Americans (or Expats) destroying Mexico. Rather funny when you read information from the boarder US towns talking about the Mexicans destroying America and the same is being said in Mexico.
There is this beautiful and wonderful town in Mexico called San Miguel de Allende, and because of the Expats that have moved in there the price of everything is just out of range except for the rich.
I see the same going on in Lake Chapala area right now.
But lets look at our new area. I put the question out onto the forum about moving and any suggestions as to where. One man referred me to another forum in the state of Michoacan. I joined their discussions. I like what and how the forum responded about.
Asking the forum about cost of living and rentals, I got back a man's name that had a rental. I contacted this man and we went up to his house for three days just to get a feel. We had an incredible time and experience but his house was just not right.
He and his wife were leaving to visit their new grandson in California. Two and a half year old just diagnosed a while ago with Autism. (anything to do with any disability - I will end up in their living room working to help them.
He will return at the end of this month and we will go back to his home and find a rental in the surrounding area. I will have to place our personal items into a rental storage unit until we actually move.
The area that he is located in is called Patzcuaro which is outside of Morelia.
Lake Patzcuaro is amazing. In looking at the towns around Pazcuaro I found this other place - a much smaller lake called Lago Zirahuen. That water, the town, the alpine feel of it is just beyond beautiful it is surreal.
This is Lago Zirahuen. We will be going there tomorrow to look around. Then we will come home to pack up things, get them into storage and go stay with some friends until we find a place.
I was wondering how your move went and are you living in Zirahuen. I am looking to make a similar move.
