WELCOME TO OUR NEW BLOG. THIS BLOG WILL BE ABOUT DAILY LIVING AS AN AMERICAN IN THE COUNTRY OF MEXICO. THE MAP WILL HELP YOU SEE THE LOCATIONS THAT WILL BE TALKED ABOUT IN THIS BLOG.
At the current time we are living in San Antonio Tlayacap in Chapala Jal.Mexico. In the above map, we would be located right by Guadalajara, pretty much in Central Mexico.
We left America in 2011 and lived in San Cristobal de Las Casas which is at the far most southern part of Mexico.
In America when you travel between the states, you see a change in language, weather, housing, culture etc. But in Mexico when you travel between the states, you enter into different worlds.
I have come to a concussion of thought about why that is true. I think that the large differences between the states in Mexico is because of the Aztec and Mayan influences along with when the Spaniards took over the land.
To me, it seems that the Mayan influence is in the southern part of Mexico and the Aztec is in the upper states starting with Mexico City. Did you know for example that Mexico city is really the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan with floating gardens and cities? Interesting history. It also seems to me that the more indigenous people that live in a location the more honest and safe the area is.
We are looking forward to moving to a different spot in Mexico. A state called Michoacan. The capital of Michoacan is Morella and that is not far from where we are looking to rent. There is a beautiful lake called Lago de Patzcuaro. We have not found a house there yet so it is still up in the air. Morella is a beautiful city and historically very important to Mexico's independence from Spain.
I see a different between Guadalajara and Morella in style and quality. Morella seems to have higher quality and more worldly type styling in furniture, housing and most things. Also there are a lot of indigenous people living there and I like that.
Until we move I will be showing you pictures of our home here and events around the Lago de Chapala area.
The home that we rent now, is one block from lake Chapala in a community that is very small, it is an old fishing village community. This area around the lake the largest amount of expats in Mexico. There is no reason to learn Spanish because of all the Canadians and Americans living here...although it is easier if you do.
this is our patio the gate that is in the background leads to our orchard. the house is walled in which is typical for here. |
this is the side yard around the house area. this cement pad with the green container is where the water to the house comes from. the green container is a pump for the water. |
this is the entrance from the street - one door is for people and the other for the car |
This is our wall in the house and through the window you can see that it is a cement wall with rocks about one foot thick.with bars cemented in the wall on the outside. |
this type of ceiling is typical in the homes here. |
This is the wash area in the home. (next to the washing machine) but I do love to hand wash my personal things on this. |
This is the orchard in the back of the house. It is a land locked lot and the lot behind it is planted in corn. I have so many trees - my own corn and a veg. garden on the side. |
